Updated news on the series

February 15, 2001

Showtime has cancelled two more original series. Beggars and Choosers has been cancelled after two seasons, and Rude Awakening has also been cancelled, after 3 seasons. Both shows still air, but will soon be off for good. NOTE: Last season, Lincs was cancelled along with The Hoop Life. I guess Showtime has no luck with original programming.

Showtime has officially canceled the Hoop Life after only 22 episodes. I am so upset by this news. I thought the characters and storyline in the Hoop Life were all so original, and it had a lot of potential. I am stunned as to how they can cancel this show before the first season is even up, and they can keep crap on like LINCS, or Stargate SG-1.........Showtime makes no sense to me......AGH! I don't know what I'm going to do now. There aren't enough fans to start anything to save the show.....it couldn't be bought by any of the big regular cable stations, because of the content, and as for it being on Showtime, I don't see it miracously coming back. I might do some Hoop Life fiction stuff....maybe a new episode every month or every 2 weeks, who knows. I'm not the greatest writer, and thinking of new ideas would be kinda hard, but it's just that I have never seen a show that grabbed my attention like the Hoop Life. Anyone wanna put up $50 million, and maybe we can start a premium network and buy more episode of the show? Please???

Just to comment on Showtime canceling The Hoop Life.......

From what I have read online, one of the main reasons for the show's cancellation might be the fact that the show's producers, Fontana and Levinson, stopped giving all their attention to the show after Showtime decided to move the production to Canada. Canada has much lower costs when it comes to producing shows like this, and that's why it was moved there. Beggars and Choosers, another new series from Showtime, is also filmed in Canada for the low production costs. I think that the fact that the prodcuers kind of left the show for more important projects may have been a big reason why the show failed.....even tho, I thought the show was great, and the story line was heading in the right direction, etc. I just wanted to make a note on what I read and why the show was taken off.....possibly, that is.

Just a quick note here....I was looking at the Internet Movie Database's page for Cirroc Lofton who plays Curtis Thorpe, and in his filmography I ran across a movie called Sex Offenders #6. I looked at the page for that movie and it has a bunch of porn star names and an adult production compnay, Wicked Films, so I'm kinda worried! I'm not sure if this is correct or what, but it seems Cirroc starred in a porn movie!!! Hello....I was shocked. I cannot find information on the movie outside of the IMDB, but I will keep searching to find out the validity of all of this.
