CURRENT STORYLINE FROM HOOP LIFE

As for right now, Paula's restaurant has opened and it didn't get the best reviews from the local newspaper. They are currently in pre-production on the movie about Curtis, the young basketball phenom.....the film will be directed by his old friend Damon. What? A film about Curtis without Curtis knowing about it before hand? No way......that's Damon and Curtis for you........Matt Axlerod will be playing Curtis.....but he's white! No way again......................

Paula and Marvin's new restaurant, the Wildfire Grill is up and running, but we see there are some problems. The representative from the firm Paula hired to consult with her on the operation of the place says that she needs to make big changed or she will be out of business by the end of the year. A problem with the contract arises as well. We find out that whoever worked out the contract on Marvin's end of the table, makes it possible for him to gain more executive power if the place bombs. If the restaurant does well, Marvin will take 70% of the profit. Marvin and Paula have an argument about all of this, ending up with Marvin walking away telling Paula to, "enjoy" her restaurant.

Marvin isn't the only one with relationship problems. A truly reformed Greg decides he wants to make his marriage work, but his soon to be ex-wife, who is now on good terms with him, delivers the divorce papers. Hard times for Rick, as his best friend and others go out and party and he stays home alone with his father who is there, after a little reforming himself, to lend a helping hand, and a very intent ear, having many women problems himself thru the years.

The Russian interpreter doesn't know a thing about basketball, and this causes problems, because for months, Leonard was confident that he knew all that he needed to know, so he could translate the plays and instructions to the Russian, who speaks no English. Eliot decided to keep him on staff, even after they find out that he doesn't really know anything about basketball and only lied because he needed the job.

The team is starting to come together, and a championship might be in store for them this season....time will tell.

----JANUARY 30, 2000 EPISODE

The Knights are in financial trouble, and the only one who can help is who? A japanese cowboy? More on that later....as for Marvin, he is getting thru the ordeal with his daugther he never knew he had, and is now working with kids a lot. He is doing his fantasy basketball camp, and in this episode it is bringing him troubles. One of the kids in his camp, a little girl named, Katelyn, is very shy, and Marvin gets very close to her, trying to bring her out of her shell. Katelyn's mother is at one of the camps, and she invites him over for dinner with her and her daugther....he gets to the house to find out that Katelyn has left with some friends and it will only be the two of them. He finds out he has been set up, and that the woman is trying to seduce him.....he declines and tries to leave and she makes a comment about how she thought basketball players "fucked" whatever walked. He left, and that was that.

As for Greg, he finds out that his accountant who is taking care of the money for his foundation has skipped town and ran off with all the foundation's money. They call the cops, but find out there is nothing they can do about it. This brings Greg to a church where he talks to the priest in confession and finds out that the priest is whoever than, God......That's right, the God. Greg talks to God, and his "people," because everyone has people now days.....and they visit his mother, who died when Greg was a kid.

MORE TO COME.....

This week's performances

Greg has to cry over his mother's death, and Curtis has to do a screen test for the film about his life, and he has to do a scene where he talks to his mother and father at their graves.........

Greg

Greg Marr

Greg came off real well. His anger on the phone with the police was so genuine. You might expect less from someone on a cable series that hasn't been on even a year. I love Greg's character, so maybe I am biased, but who knows. Also, he had to go see his mother die. When his mom died when he was in sixth grade, he wasn't at the house with her. He was supposed to come home, but he was playing baksetball with his friends and by the time he got home, she was already gone. All of this brought much pain to Greg, and from his conversation with God, we find out that Greg has always let people down, because he thought he let his mother down. His pain was real and genuine when he cried at his mother's death bed, and for that I give him an A+

Curtis

Curtis Thorpe

Curtis' role this episode was a regular one with the small exception of him doing the screen test. They are still working on starting the movie about his life, and it is causing tension between Curtis and Damon. Curtis thinks Damon's script sucks, and Damon thinks Curtis is a control freak. Curtis decides he wants to play himself in the movie, and he has written his own draft of the script. He does a scene where he talks to his mom and dad at their grave and it came off real well, I think. We see that although he tries to come off as this tough guy who is king of the UBA, but he has real emotions, and for that I give Curtis an A+
